2012, SEPTEMBER 12: TO LATVIA, RIGA
Around 4:30 p.m., just after our Hill of Crosses visit, we
resumed travel to our next destination, Riga. It was cloudy and drizzled all the
way.
Riga is the capital and the largest city of Latvia. Having
been a member of the Hanseatic League it has prospered since the medieval
times. It is still better off than its other neighbors.
Daugava River runs through Riga. Also it is an important
Baltic port. Russians used it as a major outpost for its trade with the West. Even
after the end of Soviet occupation, Russia continues to be used for export of
its oil.
Soon after arrival at Riga, we had dinner at our Hotel.
Then we made way to our room.
