CHINA 29: SUZHOU-MASTER-OF-NETS GARDEN
June 7
This morning, after breakfast, we walked to the Master-of-Nets Garden, which also is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is the smallest, yet the most impressive of all residential gardens of Suzhou.
First designed in the Song dynasty (960-1279), it was in use until the middle of the 19th century. Later it was restored and used as the residence of a government official.
The Garden has an impressive ornamented gateway,
wood-screen doors & windows,
and traditional rooms.
But the most beautiful was its central lily pond,
and the pavilion called “The Moon Comes with Breeze".
